Okatukhon 2009. Imaginary world

Hi folks,

It’s been a while since my last post. But , my intentions are to post once more on a regular basis. Montreal is a busy city during the summer months. We have allot of festivals and events that keep a photographer like me busy. Witch means allots of post processing. We also increase are photo outing to twice a months, hey we got to take advantage of the summer weather. But , we can’t say that on the weather front we where treated to a nice one. Lot’s of rain and overcast skies.

This picture was taken last weekend at a Photo Safari Montreal outing. we where downtown, near the convention center. Walking around Chinatown, we kept on seeing people all dressed up in these colorful costumes, we dicided to follow them to the convention center. What a surprise, there where many, who where all dressed up. It turns out that we had stumbled on the local Manga convention, Okatukhon. I took allot of pictures of the people in different costumes. In post processing I decided to push the interpretation of these characters to the limit, by using the cartoon rendering. On some occasion the results where stunning, in others not so great. But in all i’m happy whit the results obtained.

What is Okatukhon you say?

Well, Otakuthon is a Quebec anime convention promoting Japanese animation (anime), Japanese graphic novels (manga), related gaming and Japanese pop-culture. It is held annually for 2 days in Montreal, Quebec, Canada during a weekend in the summer months. It is a non-profit, fan-run anime convention that was initiated by Concordia University’s anime club, named “Otaku Anime of Concordia University” (Otaku Anime for short).[3] The name “Otakuthon” is a portmanteau of the Japanese word “otaku” and “marathon”. Otakuthon strives to be a bilingual (French and English) event, having programming, the masquerade, and the program book in both official languages.[4] The first edition of Otakuthon was held in 2006 in mid June, but later moved to early August / late July from 2007 onward.
